Last summer my wife, Lindsey and I were married. Over the many months leading up to the big day we began our task of choosing the rentals that would create the wedding we envisioned. For whatever reason, the table choice became the most difficult. What we had in mind for the overall wedding aesthetic wasn't very specific, but we knew we wanted it to feel "natural" (whatever that means). Like a dinner party in our home, but, obviously, a bit fancier. In our minds, rustic, weathered, old wood tables were essential. Maybe because we had lived most of our relationship around a table built by Lindsey's father out of an old pine door and 2x6's held together with dowels. Either way, what we soon found out was that "old, rustic, weathered wood table" translated to "farm table" in wedding rental lexicon. Unfortunately, what we actually found in that category that was available to rent was, lets just say; disappointing. I can tell you honestly that I was not being a groomzilla, but all of the "farm tables" that we saw were poorly built, over priced and coated with so much wood stain and urethane that they may as well have been plastic. I suppose being a carpenter is hard sometimes. You notice these things. REALLY notice them. So we went home, gathered a group of friends and built our own damn tables. What came out of our efforts were high quality, ruggedly built, naturally weathered farm tables. I would like to say that they are even “drunk proof” but that is probably a bad idea -legally speaking. But they will not bend or buckle (flip over, tip over, you get it…) if you have one of those drunken bridesmaids dared to dance on the bar kind of moment. Decide for yourself and check out the photo below.
